Bari Metropolitan City
Located in the north-east of Puglia is the old province of Bari, now called the Città metropolitana di Bari, centered on the city of the same name. BariWith a land area of nearly 2,000 square miles and a population of just over 1.5 million only, it cannot be called crowded. . It is mainly an agricultural economy with tourism on a fairly small scale. The countryside is covered with olive groves and to a lesser extent vineyards, fruit and nut groves.

The international airport (Aeroporto di Bari) as the name suggests is close to the city. Flights to all the major Italian cities and increasingly to all the big european hubs can be booked from here, in fact both Easyjet and Ryanair fly from various London and provincial airports regularly. Vacations to Bari Province tend to be of the more laid back kind, with couples and families enjoying the peace of country villas with visiting the the many historical old towns and famous sites as a favourite pastime.

For most of the year visitors will have most attractions and beaches to themselves, except in august when many Italian families from the north arrive in their droves.

The climate is typically mediterranean, lots of blue skies and warm sunshine through spring to autumn, but winter weather can be very cold and often very wet.
